Merry Christmas, Happy New Years!

Ok so I'm a little late on the Merry Christmas part! I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas! We did. E got very very spoiled! I don't know where we are going to put everything! I'm very glad that D and I didn't go overboard on buying gifts we left that to our families!

I got sick on Christmas so that wasn't fun. I woke up Christmas morning feeling gross and had to cook dinner for 15 people!! Not fun I say. I stayed sick for the next 2 days after that also. I'm glad D was home to help out because I really wasn't feeling up to moving or anything but I'm all better now!

Tonight is New Years Eve! Happy New Years! We are staying in and relaxing. I wasn't very smart because I booked E's 6 month shots today. Yes, yes I know. I wasn't thinking when they told me the date. Not like we are going anywhere tonight anways. We'll sit at home and watch some movies and that is about it. Maybe order in Chinese food, we'll see what we feel like when D gets home from work.

Winters here .....

and boy did it remind us how much we don't like snow and cold!!

Man did we get quite the storm yesterday, definatly the first major snowfall of the year and dang it is cold out!

Watching the news last night sure made me thankful for being on maternity leave right now. The average commute home last night was 2 hours due to gridlocked traffic all over the city. Some people waited for busses downtown for 2 hours that never came, sat in traffic for 3 hours on what is normally a 25 minute drive home! Thankfully I had no where to go so I sat in the house and watched it blow in. D was lucky, the one day he was thankful for extra work on a Friday so he put in some nice OT at work and by the time he left at 7:30 it was smooth sailing out of the city to home!

What does D come home to... lots of shovelling! He had to shovel the sidewalk, the back parking pad so he could get on it, the front road because his truck got stuck so by the time all was said and done, he came in the house to relax at 9:15!! But he was glad to do it last night and not have to shovel this morning in the -23 weather out there!!

This weekend I don't think we'll be leaving the safety, warmth and comfort of our house!!

Feeding time!?

So we decided to start E on rice cereal yesterday. That was interesting. She did pretty well I think. She ate most of it so I decided to try again this morning. She actually opened her mouth wide a couple time the spoon came to her mouth and laughed lots. But I do have to say, wow it's a lot of work! Bottle feeding is sooo much easier and quicker! Its funny it's exciting to start this new phase with her yet I know it's going to make things a little bit more difficult because I'll have to start taking food with me when I go out rather then just bottles.

What was I thinking?

You ever have one of those days where you regret thinking you can do everything? That is today!

I'm going to a christmas party tonight, an annual girls night at a friends house but I also have a craft fair to get organized for tomorrow. I had a huge Tupperware order show up at my doorstep today that I really didn't think I would get in time and now I'm trying to get that all ready to take tomorrow. Oh and too boot I still don't have a gift for the gift exchange tonight. What was I thinking?

E is sleeping and as soon as she wakes up is feed time and off to the mall to find something. The party tonight is at 6:30 but since it is on the complete opposite end of the city as me I'm going a bit early as to avoid rush hour. I can't stay late either since E will be with me and I have to get home, get her to bed and finish prepping for the craft fair tomorrow. Then it's off to bed.

Then tomorrow up and go back to that same end of town (actually a bit further out) for the craft fair with E in tow. D has to work. Talk about throwing a loop in our plans! No sitter available so now E is spending the day with me and somehow I need to push her stroller and make probably 4 trips out to the vehicle to get all the Tupperware since I'll only be able to carry one thing at a time pushing the stroller. Should be interesting.

My brother is off work and I think I'll be waking him up early (so he better not drink too late tonight) so he can come help. I first told him not to worry but the more I think about it, the more I'm going to need his help. I can't do it all! There is no way I'll be done setting up my table if I have to take 4 trips out to the vehicle. Oh my, tomorrow will definatly be an interesting day.

Soooo sore yet sooo worth it

So I ventured out yesterday and tried a new class to help me get back to losing some weight. Before E. was born I had lost almost 50lbs on Weight Watchers... love the program and I'm back on it but having a hard time with it now. So yesterday off I went to a drop-in .... Strollercize class. OH MY GOSH! I think that was the best work out I've ever done. I've never done so many lunges and squats in my life and boy am I paying for it today! I'm having more trouble with the stairs today then I did after my c-section!

I do have to say I'm pretty proud of myself for yesterday. I was by far the largest girl there so walking in right to start was pretty intimidating. But I think I did pretty well holding my own! I ran more then I have in years, there was a few times I had to "modify" what she wanted us to do but she showed us modifications so I did those. All in all I would say I kicked butt!

I will definatly be back there next week. It is sooo worth it and I just hope it shows on the scales on Wednesday! E had a blast also. I thought she would fall asleep during the walking but she didn't she just looked around and played with her feet! I hope she continues that behaviour so I can make it back to the class again!

A time to remember

I'm so glad that my work allows us today off. (not that it matters this year for me) Growing up Rememberance Day was always a day for our family to be together and remember those that fought and in this case still fighing for our freedom. My dad's family was/is very actively involved in our military and to this day I respect each and every one of them who put their life in danger so I could grow up in a safer world.

When I was in high school I was in cadets so today would be the day we would all go to the Jubilee Auditorium to participate in the ceremony. I loved being in school at this time when we would all be together to respect each and every one of our fallen soliders. When I was done with sea cadets I would still go to the Jubilee with my dad each year for the ceremony but this year I'm not going. D and I will spend the day being thankful for each and everyone who fought for our freedom so we could raise our daughter. To me this is not a day to be out christmas shopping, browsing the mall ect. this is a day to spend with family. I'm glad D's work gives him the day off also so we can do this.

We will be watching the ceremony on tv this year and look forward to the day E will understand exactly what November 11th means to a family full of military veterns!

still sick!!

Ok so we are going on 1 full week of sickness now! This is crazy! On Thursday I took E to the doctors because I was warned that maybe it's an ear infection. So off we went and thankfully he got her in that afternoon. He then noticed a rash on her and though she could have a viral infection (or bacterial? I don't remember now!). Her ears and throat were clear so he sent us off to get a pee sample! WOW! That was interesting. LOL Talk about fun! We managed to get it and haven't heard anything back so everything must be fine. The rash was gone but her snotty nose is still here. Poor girl. She definatly doesn't like us touching her nose to clean it either!

Tomorrow we were going to go visit great-grandma but that might have to be put on hold if she's still not feeling good since we don't need to get everyone else sick! Please, please feel better because I really want to go visit!

Fever, coughs and snotty nose .... oh my

A sick baby. SOOO not fun! Yesterday was a very long day with a cranky baby. Poor E was so sick. She wouldn't nap and wanted to be held all day long. She had a couple cat naps but that was it. At one point she cried for 1.5hrs straight. I couldn't find the medicine to help bring down her fever, I was going nuts. During her huge crying fit I finally just gave up since nothing I did could calm her down. I had to put her down and at that point walk away and literaly tear my house about looking for the tempra. Didn't find it. After about 4 minutes I went back to get her and I felt horrible but I just needed a break! I cried with her at that point. She finally snuggled up and went to sleep. I think she napped at that point for just over an hour. I needed it and so did she!

Darrell came home from work but thankfully called first so I could get him to stop at the drug store to pick up some Tempra. Once he got home we gave it to her and within the hour her fever was down and she was happy! She went to bed easily which was a nice change from the past week! But then she woke up at 10:00 just screaming her head off! Poor girl. I gave her some more Tempra and she crashed! And actually slept till 8:30 this morning which was a nice change from the last 4 days of waking up during the night!

Today has been a bit better but not alot. She's still got the runny nose and cough but thankfully no fever and today I can atleast put her down to play with her toys (well most of the day I've been able to). I hope tomorrow we will have an even better day!

Time for shots again!

So Tuesday we went and had Emma's 4 month shots. Oh my did I forget how loud she can scream! Next time Daddy can take her! LOL She was cranky already because she needed a nap so it was tough to get her to sit still for the needle. And boy was it like she knew what was happening! The nurse was just going to give it to her and E looked at her and then just started howling! OH MY! I had to actually hold her legs down and arms while the nurse gave her the shot and then came the tears and the howls! Thankfully she calmed down pretty quickly though and while we were sitting out in the waiting room she was happy as can be and talking up a storm, you'd never know just 5 minutes prior she was howling as loud as she was!

We did them later in the day and she did really well when we got home. Played for a bit, went to bed at 7:30 like normal and slept the night. She woke up at 8:30 the next morning and as soon as I picked her up I could feel the heat radiating off her. She was so sad and fussy. She actually sat still so I could take her temperature and low and behold she had a fever! First one ever! I knew that was a side effect of the shots. She ended up hanging out all morning in her diaper and I thankfully with some tempra the fever came down. She was still really fussy and clingy all day but that's ok. We love cuddle days like that since she doesn't like to cuddle much anymore!

Today, happy baby is back!! WOOHOOOOO Just 2 more months till the next go-round!

Time to try new things - October 18, 2008

And try new things today we did!

We took Emma swimming for the first time today! It was a blast. Sure it was an expensive 30 minutes but it was worth it! I can't wait to get her in swim lessons. This kid is going to love the water just like her parents, we'll do anything to get her to.

Airdrie has an awesome rec centre. I just love it. They have a little tot pool that is nice and warm and open all day long so we didn't have to worry about going when it was busy. We went this morning about 45 minutes before their "family swim" time starts so it was perfect. Just the 3 of us in the tot pool all by ourselves.



As I mentioned Emma lasted about 30 minutes which is what we figured we would get. She was nice and content playing and floating in the water but when she was done, she was done! Darrell got to enjoy the hot tub for a few minutes until I realized I needed his help anyways.

When we left the pool the poor girl was zonked right out before we left the parking lot! Got her home, coat off and she went right to sleep, and so did Daddy!

Can't wait for the next trip!

Happy Thanksgiving - October 13, 2008

Happy Turkey Day Everyone!!

Since it's Thanksgiving Day I thought I would take a moment and think about all the things I'm thankful for this year.

1. Healthy baby Emma - definatly Emma has been an adjustment in our life. No more sleeping in, no more going out often but it's great. She's definatly something that we are thankful for each and every day.

2. Darrell - without him I don't think I could do this. Being a mother is hard stuff! I have new respect for single parents and those who don't have a choice in being a single parent. He's the one to keep me sane and giving me adult conversation

3. My parents - they have adjusted to grandparenthood beautifully! I love it. I can leave Emma there anytime I need a break and just want to spend some time alone.

4. My friends - thank you, thank you, thank you. Thanks for listening to me vent, thanks for calling to see how the days are going, thank you for being there and I can only hope Emma will find friends as good as mine

There is plenty more to be thankful for this year but those are just a few!

Well this week we've gotten 4 nights of 11 + hours of sleep!! YEAH! Too bad they weren't 4 nights in a row but I definatly wont complain as she seems to be getting the hang of this sleep thing!

I can't believe it's just over 2 months till Christmas! Emma's first christmas should be very exciting. We are having my family and Darrell's mom and step dad over for dinner (I guess he better hurry up and invite them!) We are hoping Darrell's sister and her family comes from BC also, we'll have an awesome housefull! I can't wait. Speaking of christmas, today I've wrapped presents! Yup! You read that right, I think I only have a few presents left to wrap and then to buy stuff for Darrell and I'm done! What a relief! Who would have thought having a baby would make you get this organized for christmas!

One of those days - October 4, 2008

You know those days, the days that don't really go as planned. Yup that is today.

Our plan today was to get the trailer cleaned out and take it out to Darrell's uncles farm to store for the winter. Great idea right? Wrong. Just as we are about to go out to the trailer we see the neighbors outside working on the fence. Yeah! (not) Now normally that would be a good thing but it kinds throws a loop in our day. Now Darrell feels obligated to be out there helping. So much for getting the trailer ready for storage, now that is my job. Easy eh? Well normally sure, but don't forget we have a 3 month old who needs attention.

Thankfully just when we spot the neighbors working it was time for Emma's nap. So I'm running in and out of the house back and forth to the trailer bringing stuff in hoping and praying she decides to sleep longer then her 40 minute stretch. She did! Yeah! I managed to bring in the stuff we want to store in the house for the winter and clean the trailer (ie sweep, mop etc.).

So now we sit and wait. Rather I sit and wait. I've entertained Emma, fed and put her down for another nap, did some laundry and I wait. We need to go dump the tanks and winterize it and now it looks like that wont happen today. It's already 4:30 and they are just cementing the fence posts... the joys of building a new house.

So you say ok go tomorrow.. nope. We can't. I want to go see my grandma. She was put in a "home" back in march and I don't nearly get to see her as often as we should. All week long I've been saying we are going this weekend. So that is the plan for tomorrow. I found out today that she has been fading. So we need to go. She's refusing to eat and sometimes wont get out of bed. I need to go. We need to go. I want to take Emma and hopefully that will cheer her up for a few days.

Anyways, the little one is up there squaking so I guess I better go see if she's ready to wake up and then it's back to me entertaining her and time to put on a new load of laundry.

Home and exhausted - Sept 15, 2008

Ok I started this a week ago and finally back to finish!!

Well we are back home. What a wirlwind trip!! We covered 7 states and over 5000km in just over 2 weeks. It's nice to be home sleeping in our own beds!

Emma was a pretty good traveller overall. I mean sure it would have been nice if she could sleep better in the car but you can only sleep good if the roads are travelling are smooth!! We drove some pretty bad interstates that we are very lucky she slept as good as she had!!

On the way to Kansas we stopped at Mount Rushmore! WOW! The work involved in that mountain is amazing. It is alot smaller then I grew up believing it was and I think that is more along the lines with growing up in Alberta we are just moments away from the Rocky Moutains, these mountains were not nearly as big as we were used to!

We camped at "Flintstone Park". It was awesome! We used to have one in Kelowna that we went to growing up while my grandma lived there and it was like reliving Childhood all over again. Ok but confession time, we didn't actually go to the park. We camped there and went to Mount Rushmore and wanted to go to the park but ran out of time and it was closing less then 2 hours by the time we returned. We did peek in though and can't wait to go back when Emma is a bit older and can appreciate it rather then just us having fun!

It was great to finally arrive in Kansas!! Last time we saw Laura was christmas time, so 9 months! It felt like forever! It sucks that she lives so far away now but I'm glad she's happy with her hubby and one day they'll have their own family. We've decided that we will try and go somewhere near by every 2 years and then they can meet up with us too.

While in Kansas we took Emma to her first MLB game! Not that she'll remember but daddy had lots of fun there! We did lots of shopping and are 90% done christmas shopping! Yup I said the "C" word... Christmas!! We scored some amazing deals in the states! Everyone says its cheaper down there and for some things they are right and others it's the same as up here so I'm glad we took the time and paid attention because there was some stuff I was going to buy and when we got home I found out it was the same price here (and in some cases a little cheaper!).

Coming home we went through Yellowstone National Park. We got to see the end of an Old Faithful erruption. We thought we were watching the whole thing only to find out later (ie... 5 hours later as I was driving and Darrell was reading about it) that it normally errupts about 100 feet into the air... we only saw it at about 25 feet and we thought that was amazing! If only we'd see the whole thing!

Yellowstone was definatly a beautiful area!! I can't wait to go back again and spend a week camping down there. We got to see some real bison on the side of the road and some people were getting too darn close for my comfort to them! HELLO PEOPLE! Read the warnings they can attack for no reason! Some people don't think!

Getting home was nice. It was nice to be back in our own beds, out of the jeep and just relaxing. We got home on Saturday afternoon so Darrell had all day Sunday to relax before going back to work. All in all it was an awesome trip, got to see many things and can't wait to do it again when Emma is older and can appreciate the sights we saw! (and is a bit more patient in the vehicle!)

Yup, you read that right! 2 more sleeps till we attempt our 2500km road trip with a 10 week old!!

We are heading to Kansas to go see one of my BFF's. I'm sooo excited. She moved down there I think 5 years ago now and I've never been there to see her. Thankfully her mom still lived in Calgary so she came home lots but now her mom has moved away. Who knows when she will come again :( I knew when she left she wouldn't be back but that is ok because she met a great guy and got married and one day will be starting their own little family.

We decided since we bought our travel trailer and I'm on mat leave let's attempt the road trip. She hasn't meet Emma yet so I'm quite excited for her to meet her.

Hubby and I haven't been to those parts of the US yet either so it will be fun to hit up all the tourist joints. We plan on staying for a day around Mount Rushmore also. I can't wait. We are taking two different routes on our travel, one way there and another way back. On our way back we're going to hit Yellowstone National Park too.

So here I am 2 days away from our roadtrip and I'm on the computer. I should be packing and making sure we have everything ready especially since Emma is sleeping right now!

Wish me luck!! It should be fun to see how well Emma handles the roadtrip. We know it will take some time but that is ok. Thoughts and prayers will be needed!! LOL

Shots, shots and more shots?? - August 22, 2008

WOW! I never knew just how loud Emma could scream until we went for her 2 month vaccinations (man does 2 months go by fast!!) Poor girl. She was already having an off day to begin with and then I throw that in. She didn't nap much in the morning so by the time she went down for a nap I had to actually wake her up and take her to the health centre.

Surprisingly she was very well! She didn't fuss in the car (that is odd lately) and was quiet while we waited. She is now 11 lbs 10 oz and 24 inches long! While the health nurse did her paperwork Emma just sat on my lap and cooed. It was really funny. She started to fuss which I knew she would because she was hungry. Before I could feed her the nurse had to give me my tetnus shot since I couldn't remember when I had it last. Now I hate needles. Man do I wish Darrell was with me or someone for that matter. I was brave though. I didn't look and I kept focusing on her and boy was the nurse good, I didn't even feel it!

So now Emma is really hungry so we decide I'll feed her while the nurse gives her the vaccination and maybe that will help distract her. Nope! Holy crap the poor girl, first time I saw a real tear come out of her eyes. They did 2 needles and then she kept feeding and they did the 3rd, she cried hard but as soon as the nurse rang the bell to distract her she looked over and just stared and started to whimper. I put the bottle back in her mouth and she went back to eating. We had to wait 15 minutes to make sure there was no allergic reaction but she did good, so home we went.

By the time we got home she was starting to doze off so I took her up to the crib and she slept for about 15 minutes and then woke up. We had a rough night after that. I think I may have hit her leg or held it funny because when daddy walked in the door she was screaming like earlier. Poor girl. It took me until 10pm to get her down for the night and then she woke up at 2:20, 5, 7 and 9am. But finally I think she's starting to get "back to normal". She still hasn't ate as much as usual but I knew that could happen. As of now she's been napping for almost 3 hours, yeah!!! I can clean the house up.

We are having friends over for dinner tomorrow night. I'm quite excited. It's the first time we'll be "entertaining" since she was born. Our friends have an almost 4 week old so I know she's looking forward to getting out of the house also!

Well back to cleaning before Emma wakes up!!

Back from Holidays - August 13, 2008

We are back from a week's holiday's in BC.

For the long weekend we went camping at Eagle Bay on Arrow Lake just south of Revelstoke. What a beautiful place. I love it. The lake isn't real busy so it's perfect for tubing and waterskiing (not that I even attempted waterskiing). We had great weather and Emma was an angel! She went down for naps so easily and slept atleast 7 hrs each night. It was amazing!! We love our trailer! But the stupid batteries weren't fully charged and then they died on our second night there which caused our fridge to stop working! That sucked!
We left on Monday and went back to the sister-in-laws to recharge the batteries for the rest of our trip.
Tuesday we went to Enderby, BC. We wanted some campgrounds closer to Kelowna but they were fully booked. As it turned out this campground was awesome! We loved it. The Shushwap River ran through it and there was lots of people just floating on tubes down the river. Next year that is something we will do since it's hard with a 7 week old! The was the bad thing about camping on our own. We were really tied down. Sure we could go to the river but only 1 at a time could go in, so next time, we bring my little brother to babysit! LOL.

The weather was atlittle too hot... we definatly may think of getting a/c in the next trailer (in like 10 years!). It was about 35 degrees all week long! Emma slept at night in just a diaper and with a wet cloth on her head! It was funny. We did a couple little day trips in to Kelowna and Vernon for shopping and relaxing. Then it was home time again. Emma didn't do sooo well in the car but oh well. It should make the drive to Kansas at the end of the month interesting!!

What a night - July 31, 2008

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH What a freakin evening we've had.

So Emma wakes up from her nap at about 3:45 this afternoon and was kinda warm (our house is cooking). So we ate and then just cuddled on the couch for a bit. She fell asleep around 5 for maybe 10 minutes? So by the time Darrell gets home at 6:30 she's really cranky and yawning and everything. So we go upstairs to change for bed and feed and I hear this huge shatter just as we are sitting down to feed. I hear Darrell yell and go running. So we come running down the stairs to Darrell in tears and a towel wrapped around his hand and blood all over my living room carpet.

He picked up the huge vase I had with fake flowers in it and beads and it shattered in his hand. Yup shattered. We had glass (and blood) everywhere. His hand was just draining blood so I put Emma in the carseat (She's been screaming this whole time) and she shuts up and we rush off to the urgent care facility in our town (First time there and I have to say I'm impressed!).

Emma was quiet most of the way there, by the time we get there she is screaming again and she's screaming as we are going in, the poor nurses didn't know what the heck was going on. Darrell is covered in blood, my kid is screaming. LOL They come running to both of us I'm like she's fine. She's just cranky. LOL

So Darrell goes in and gets looked and gets stitches (yeah and we are heading for holidays on Friday). Emma ate a little bit and then sleeps on me for about 15 minutes. We head home an hour later. So we get home about 8pm. I headed straight upstairs with Emma and didn't leave her room till 10:45... yup, you read that right. It took me 2 hrs 45 minutes to get her to calm down and go to sleep. (she wasn't screaming all that time). Meanwhile Darrell is downstairs cleaning the living room and everything and too boot he's sicker then a dog to begin with. I feel absolutly awful. I had told him yesterday when he got home to eat dinner and then go to bed... so much for that, he's finally just in bed now! (11pm).

So meanwhile neither of us had ate dinner and Darrell threw it all out when he was cleaning up. Thank goodness for leftover Pizza from Tuesday night! So I'm sitting downstairs at 11pm eating pizza. Darrell's in bed and I finally had a few minutes to myself.

I'm exhausted and thankfully Emma is sleeping at my parents again tonight so we can be fully packed for holidays so now I can sleep in on tomorrow!

Sleep...what's that - July 23, 2008

So as most people know we've been having sleeping issues with Emma. It takes us a long time to get her down for bed at night and it's very stressfull for Darrell and I. It is driving us crazy. Even naps are trouble sometimes. She just wont go to sleep or put herself to sleep.

So I bought a book "The Baby Whisperer". Wow is there alot of information in there. Just when we think we may have a cure for sleeping we are wrong. LOL I thought ok I'm going to follow the book tip for tip... not working!! I've been spending the last 45 minutes trying to get her to go down for a nap. She keeps yawning and everything and will doze off but the minute I leave the room she wakes up. I thought yeah she's down but now I hear her up there grunting, no crying yet but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. I just don't understand. I mean you're tired, you go to sleep? Right? LOL I don't want to get in the habit of having to rock her right to sleep and then leaving the room because I can only imagine how hard that will be to break. Oh well.

We are hoping to get this all sorted out and on to some sort of routine before the long weekend. We are going camping! That should be interesting. We are spending the weekend in Revelstoke BC at a wicked campground on Arrow Lake and then we are heading out to the Okanagan for a week. This trip will be our trial run before our trip to Kansas at the beginning of September. I hope we can do this!

Well the grunting has stopped..... so that must be a good sign! I'll give it a few more minutes and then I can go shower and get organized for my day. Man it's hard being alone during the day to get things done, I tell you I have new respect for any single parents out there... how do you do it!?

Time for a growth spurt - July 9, 2008

WOW! I know we were warned about growth spurts in our prenatal class but man do I have a little piggy on my hands! LOL I just can't get over how much she can eat right now. Guess that is the good thing about still formula supplementing, I can have everything ready to go for when she wakes up.

I was stunned when 2 days ago she actually ate 6 ounces of formula in a 4 hour span! Normally it's 2 ounces in a 4 hour span! I wonder how many days this will last? Today Emma didn't want to nap. She woke up at 2 and kept falling asleep but only for like 10 minutes and then she'd wake herself up. It was kinda funny to watch her fighting the sleep but when she finally went down it was 6:45 pm... it's now 10 and she's still sleeping!! I want to go to bed but I know as soon as I go to bed she's going to wake up. Let's just hope that when she wakes up she doesn't decide to stay awake for a couple hours. It's bedtime Missy!! We slept at night.

Tomorrow I'm excited to get out of the house! My mom is coming and she's going to take us out to go see my grandma. Emma gets to meet her great grandma! We are very excited for that. I'm hoping we'll be able to get some nice pictures especially since Mom is taking us... that will be 4 generations of us together! I need to get pictures while I can. Mom told grandma I had her but I'm sure once we get there grandma's not going to remember! Funny story... when I was pregnant we were visiting my grandma when she first moved into the seniors home and we were talking about cribs and I made a comment joking about if we don't have one our baby can sleep in a dresser drawer and then if she cries I'll shut the door. I said "Grandma, what do you think of that". She looks right as me and was like "I'll shut you in the drawer!!" We cracked up laughing, didn't think she was listening but apparently the lady was! Sure sometimes she forgets things but not this time!

I tell you, I think the worse part about having a c-section is the fact that I'm confined to the house. No driving? Seriously! That sucks the big one. Next Friday Emma's got a doctors appointment so I'll have to talk to him about driving. I really don't think I can go 6 weeks with no driving. I feel good, I think the healing is going ok but I have to remember to not overdo it or else I may end up making my healing delay even longer. I need to heal so when we go camping on the August long weekend I'll be able to go boating and tubing! Funny how little things like that make you really want to be careful to not overdo things I mean who wants to go camping and be stuck on the shore all weekend! LOL

Well she's still sleeping so I might as well try and get a 30 minute nap in... my luck if I stay up waiting for her she'll sleep till midnight or something!

Alright, I tried this whole blogging thing before but kinda fell off the wagon but now since I'm off work for the next year on maternity leave maybe this will be my connection to the outside world and an insight to my new attempt at motherhood.

Our beautiful little girl was born on June 21, 2008 at 1313hrs. Doesn't that sound better then 1:13pm? She was 9lbs 1 oz and 21 inches long. Labour was just as bad as I thought it would be. My biggest fear of not being able to have the epidural came true. We tried but because of my back surgery and the scar tissue the drugs didn't work for me. Emma was pushing down pretty hard on my back and the pain was more intense then the original surgery was. After 12 hours of intense labour and no progress on her end the decision was made to have a c-section. Definatly not the "birth plan" we thought of when we took our prenatal classes but she needed to come out before I had no energy left. I do have to say the nurses were just amazing!! I loved how they stayed by our side the whole time and were so encouraging. I didn't expect it at all. Poor Darrell says to me later "I'm sorry I didn't know what to do because everything they told us in our classes the nurses were doing and saying." It was cute.



The nice thing about a c-section (is ther such a thing?) is that I got to spend a bit more time in the hospital. So no being kicked out within 24 hours for me. It was nice as it gave Darrell and I time to adjust to feedings and such with the help of the nurses. It was great apperantly there is no overnight stays allowed in the hospital but for some reason Darrell was allowed to stay, not sure if it was because it was a c-section or because we kept the door shut to our private room and the nurses forgot he was there? When it was hometime though, we were both ready to go as hospital beds definatly aren't the most comfortable things in the world! Just before we left the nurses weighed her again and found out she lost almost a full pound so they were worried and upset that no one caught it sooner. They had us start supplementing with formula and it was amazing at how much happier she was now that mommy wasn't starving her!


I think the hardest part for me so far with adjusting to motherhood is the fact that I still am not suppling her with enough milk. After 10 days I'm still supplementing and that just frustrates me to no end. It hurts to know that I can't feed her on demand and I really really wanted to have this bonding time with her. I'm still trying each day but still having to give her quite a bit of formula to keep her content.

Ok so I decided that my other blog just had too much personal information in it... heck it has my whole name in the webaddress. So I'm creating this new one.

I'm going to move the other ones over here somehow. I think I can do that anyways. If not then I will eventually just delete the other one.
